Go Skate Day Montreal

Yesterday, June 21st, we celebrated the Go Skateboarding Day at the Project 45 in Montreal. This skate jam presented by RVCA, Exposé Mag and Vans gathered the skateboard scene of the Montreal area to shred the new concrete DIY obstacles built by the good people of the Project 45.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Project, it consist of a team of hard working volunteers, dedicated to build the best DIY Skatepark Project for Montreal’s Skateboarders. Frustrated by the lack of good skate-parks in Quebec and inspired by the Burnsides and Leesides of this world, these guys took things in charge last year, bought materials and started to build new obstacles on the outdoor skate section at the TAZ. The Project continues to grow with any financial support they can get, so every donations count. Here’s a link to their blog if you want to contribute: http://projet45mtl.blogspot.com/

Just yesterday, Emerica and Agence Royal donated 835$ raised at the Wild in The Streets event on Sunday. In addition to the money raised at the Go Skate Day yesterday, it’s a total of a 1000$ that will be used to buy more materials for another building session within the next few weeks, so expect more stuff to shred at Project 45 in a very near future! June 21 is the official Go Skateboarding Day for the world, so wherever you are GO SKATE! We are doing 4 events around the country so you really have no excuses now.
Vancouver: Queensborough Park in New Westminster 3pm start. BBQ and swag!

Calgary: Millenium Skatepark 3pm start. BBQ and swag!

Toronto: Meet at Dunbat at 5pm then go from there to hit skate spots along the way. Cash and prizes for tricks!!

Montreal: Au Project 45. Exterieur du Taz 4pm-7pm. $1,000 en prix de presence.

Here's are a few words from Sandro regarding yesterday's Go Skateboarding Day hullabaloo.

"Just want to thank you all for helping to make Go Skateboarding Day 2010 a huge success! In Vancouver we had almost 1000 skaters show up and with the weather permitting, we hit the trains to 10 spots around the Greater Vancouver Area with only a few run-ins with police (at every stop), some loud chanting and some amazing (jaw dropping, actually) tricks landed. Also, the traditional barge across the viaduct was not lost at all – I got some great footage of us stopping traffic during rush-hour in one of Van’s main city arteries."
