GOOD LUCK BSS @ THE POLARIS AWARDS

We would like to send our most heartfelt best wishes and good luck out to our friends and RVCA Advocates, Broken Social Scene at tonite's 2010 Polaris Music Prize awards ceremony. The band is nominated for their juggernaut of an LP, Forgiveness Rock Record. And even though BSS are up against a murderer's row of Canadian independent music talent we know they are gonna walk away the winners, making it the 2nd year in a row that someone in the Timebomb family (Fucked Up in 2009), takes home the illustrious award. Good luck boys and girl.

RVCA Advocates Broken Social Scene wrote the score as well as a new song (with vocals) for the upcoming mental hospital dramedy It's Kind of a Funny Story from directing team Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, and starring Zach Galifianakis. (BSS worked with Fleck and Boden previously on Half Nelson.)

The new track is called "Not at My Best" and it leads the flick's official soundtrack. A piece of the BSS score will also be available as an iTunes bonus track. The soundtrack is out September 28 on Rhino. The film hits theaters October 8.

Pre-BSS Group K.C. Accidental EPs to Be Reissued

In the late 90s, before they got together with what seemed like every indie rocker in Toronto, RVCA Advocates and Broken Social Scene mainstays Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin made two lo-fi post-rock EPs as K.C. Accidental. Both hard-to-find records-- Captured Anthems for an Empty Bathtub and Anthems for the Could've Bin Pills-- get reissued on October 26 via Arts & Crafts. The set will be available on double CD, double vinyl, and digitally, and copies will also be for sale at Broken Social Scene's tour stops. Guests on the two EPs included Metric's Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, Stars' Evan Cranley, and many more.

BSS - 'Forced to Love' Video

RVCA Advocates and Toronto sweethearts, Broken Social Scene recently dropped their latest, and first official video off Forgiveness Rock Record, for 'Forced to Love'.

“It’s an experimental 3D scanning technology that detects the displacement of a grid pattern of any object in front of it,” [director Alan Poon] explains. “The data is then used to rebuild the object in three dimensions. Each band member’s performance was scanned using this technique and manipulated in the computer to create the effect you see in the final video.”

Broken Social Scene - Pitchfork P.O.V. Series

RVCA Advocates Broken Social Scene were recently in Chicago playing the Pitchfork fest. During some time off they filmed a special new segment for Pitchfork's new P.O.V. series doing three songs-- including one unreleased jam-- at Lincoln Hall. The segment lets you play director and switch in live time between 6 different camera angles and since there are more members in BSS than your average band, the extra perspectives really come in handy. You can also watch all six streams at once, and switch angles by clicking one of the numbered thumbnails on the screen. It's a blast. And big ups to the guys in the band for being so nicely decked out in all of RVCA's latest and greatest Summer 2010 duds!

Political New Broken Social Scene Video

"The fan-made, band-approved, found-footage video for Forgiveness Rock Record's epic "Meet Me in the Basement" looks like a visual analog for his worldview. Made as a response to the recent riot-filled G20 Summit in the band's hometown of Toronto, the clip slices together storm-trooper footage from that event along with a flashes of what could be interpreted as "distractions": Justin Bieber, violent video games, Lady Gaga, Obama girl. It's pretty intense. According to the band, "This video was sent to us by a lover of our music who wants to remain anonymous. We are very proud to share this mash-up with you." c/o Pitchfork

Broken Social Scene Island Fest Recap

This past weekend Broken Social Scene curated their own summer festival featuring themselves, Pavement, Band of Horses, and Beach House. Completely sold out with 10,000 people the event had a great atmosphere. Instead of having some fast food hot dog or pizza vendors the band picked all their favorite local Toronto eataries/breweries and had them set up booths on the island. Also available at the show were the extremely limited RVCA x BSS vintage dye t-shirt that sold out before the band even got off the stage.

Aside from the usual 12+ piece live Broken Social Scene band they were also joined on stage by friends Feist, Emily and Jimmy from Metric, Sebastien from Death from Above 1979, the guys from Pavement, and John McEntire from Tortoise/Sea & Cake.

THIS MOVIE IS BROKEN

Directed by Bruce McDonald ("Hard Core Logo"), 'This is Broken' is a sort of docu-drama compiling actual crowd-sourced audience-shot concert footage of Broken Social Scene at last summer's epic Harborfront reunion show in Toronto with a fictional narrative — written by well-known Canuck scribe/filmmaker Don McKellarrevolving around two lovers (played by little known young actors Greg Calderone and Georgina Reilly from McDonald's last picture, the aural-zombie movie, "Pontypool") trying to make their way into a Broken Social Scene concert. The film is set for release for June 25th.
